The Jeremiah Curtin home on W. Grange Avenue is in the process of having the roof replaced.
Gary Goyette of Sullivan, Wisconsin is placing new western red cedar shingles on the historic building. Goyette said the cedar shingles will last about 30 years as long as they are kept free of debris including leaves and fruit from the walnut tree next to the structure.
It will take Goyette about 2 weeks to completely replace all the shingles. Indoor repairs will be done in time for spring 2009 tours.
The Jeremiah Curtin home is an Irish stone house built in the 1840s and it is one of three historic houses owned by the Milwaukee County Historical Society. It is located next to the Trimborn Farm property which is a Milwaukee County Park.
