“Through this renovation, Southridge Mall will even better serve the needs of our customers, whether they are here for shopping, dining or entertainment or just to enjoy a welcoming and comfortable environment,” said Patrick Basche, Southridge Mall General Manager.
“While we intend to focus on improvements that will appeal to all segments of our shopper base, we will place special emphasis on family-friendly amenities, especially since families account for much of the region’s population base and growth, and Southridge Mall is such a popular destination for families to spend time together,” Basche added.
“We are encouraged that a retail leader like Macy’s has recognized the great opportunities in Greendale,” said John Hermes, Village of Greendale President. “This most recent addition to Southridge, coupled with Simon Property Group’s commitment to a renovation and restoration of the mall will greatly benefit the Greendale community and support ongoing economic development efforts throughout the 76th Street Corridor.”
All work performed will be done in such a way as to minimize interference or customer inconvenience during the mall’s operating hours. Construction is scheduled to be completed by the first quarter of 2012.
“The renovation will be attractive to both current and prospective tenants. We’re already working on lease commitments with new tenants in conjunction with the renovation plans. With new tenants and a renovated mall, we feel we can truly launch Southridge Mall to the next level,” said Southridge Mall Leasing Representative Robert Alexander. For leasing opportunities, Robert can be reached at 817.685.3030.
The renovation in 2011 marks the 41 year anniversary since the center opened. The 1.2 million square-foot mall is Wisconsin’s largest shopping area in Milwaukee, anchored by JCPenney, Sears, Kohl's and Boston Store, and originally opened in 1970.
Interim Police Chief Bob Malasuk said Monday the bystander spotted the suspect just after 10 p.m. spray-painting the building. The suspect has not yet been apprehended.
Malasuk said words such as "Traitor," and "Unions are Forever," as well as profanity directed at Walker were spray-painted on the wall.
The damage has been cleaned up.
