Al Emmons' well known and controversial statue known as "The Blue Bird" was stolen from the yard of a home at 7310 W. Elberton sometime after 10:00 pm on Saturday, August 22.
The owner of the home, Marceline Henrichs said there had been some "teenagers" on a scavenger hunt earlier in the evening. The youths asked for a sock and a ping pong ball, and her son Curtis went looking for the items. Henrichs believes there might be a connection between the scavenger hunt and the theft.

The Village of Greendale has now submitted two requests for federal stimulus money for infrastructure projects, however, Village Manager Todd Michaels has told Greendale Life in an email, "We have not yet received notice that we will be receiving any stimulus funds."
Greendale recently added $4.6 million of road improvements to their original stimulus list called the First Round of Local Transportation Recovery Project funding, which totals almost $10 million. The Second Round of Local Transportation Recovery Projects would take place on 51st and 92nd St.
Since each of the identified project candidates encompass other jurisdictions, Greendale staff began preliminary project discussions with the various communities to determine if there was interest in jointly applying for Second Round Recovery Project funding.

Greendale has created a list of Infrastructure Stimulus Projects in the hopes Congress approves a federal economic stimulus package after President-elect Barack Obama's inauguration on January 20. Work on the projects would begin in March of 2009.
Greendale's list includes $3 million in water systems repairs, $1.6 million in roadway reconstruction of College Avenue and Eastway, $1.3 million for storm water management at Southridge and $3.8 million for the renovation of the former police station as well as $200,000 for public restroom facilities at Gazebo Park.
The Village has begun the process of creating a Comprehensive Plan. The process will take 12 months and, at the end, we will have an adopted comprehensive plan that satisfies the State's "Smart Growth" Law and, more importantly, helps guide Greendale into the future.
A Comprehensive Plan is a very important document that establishes a community vision, lays out future land use, and identifies issues and opportunities for the future of Greendale. A critical part of this process will be the citizen participation element, which will provide opportunities for residents to express ideas, opinions, and concerns.
Please attend a Kick-Off Meeting for the Comprehensive Planning Process at the Greendale Safety Center, 5911 W. Grange Avenue, on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 7 p.m. to share your thoughts and vision for the Village of Greendale. The Kick-Off Meeting will begin with a short presentation that answers the questions: "What is a comprehensive plan?" and "Who is Greendale today?"
We will then talk about the challenges and opportunities in Greendale, as you see them. We hope that everyone will watch for notices about future meetings and plan to participate in the process.
