The Village of Greendale has now submitted two requests for federal stimulus money for infrastructure projects, however, Village Manager Todd Michaels has told Greendale Life in an email, "We have not yet received notice that we will be receiving any stimulus funds."

Greendale recently added $4.6 million of road improvements to their original stimulus list called the First Round of Local Transportation Recovery Project funding, which totals almost $10 million. The Second Round of Local Transportation Recovery Projects would take place on 51st and 92nd St.

Since each of the identified project candidates encompass other jurisdictions, Greendale staff began preliminary project discussions with the various communities to determine if there was interest in jointly applying for Second Round Recovery Project funding.

The Village of Hales Corners, the City of Franklin, and the City of Greenfield all expressed interest in considering joint project applications. Each municipality is currently seeking their respective Village Board and/or Comnion Council approvals to proceed witlI the application process.

Greendale's original stimulus list included $3 million in water systems repairs, $1.6 million in roadway reconstruction of College Avenue and Eastway, $1.3 million for storm water management at Southridge and $3.8 million for the renovation of the former police station as well as $200,000 for public restroom facilities at Gazebo Park.

The $3.8 million requested for the former police station is almost double the $2 million price tag originally set by the Village in 2007 for renovations to the building by the Greendale Historical Society. In 2008, Greendale granted the Historical Society a two-year extention on their fund raising efforts for the former police station. The list indicates that the stimulus money, if provided, would also benefit the Greendale School District and the Park and Rec Department by providing additional space for classes and day care at the former police station.

Greendale Life contacted the Greendale Historical Society for a statement from GHS President Ted Mainella regarding the doubling of the cost of renovation and how the Historical Society was able to be included in Greendale's Infrastructure Projects list. On January 16, we received this email reply from Mr. Mainella:

The Historical Society is open to securing funding from a wide range of sources which might help complete the renovation of the historic Fire and Police Station buildings for use as a Museum and Community Center.

While the community waits to hear about the status of the Infrastructure Stimulus Projects outlined by the Village, the Society is moving forward and continues to seek funding for the project from wide-range of sources.

Currently, the Society is taking a major step in the renovation project of the old Fire and Police Station buildings with plans to conduct a Historic Structure Report (HSR). The Society's board is currently evaluating proposals for an HSR from a number of qualified architectural firms with a final selection slated to be announced soon.
